The Brazos™ Brass Spike concept was developed in house, after years of selling other excellent spike ferrules: the Lee Valley Spike, the Spike Ferrule, and the Combi Spike. The idea was to offer our customers a quality spike, in the same vein as the venerable Lee Valley Spike, but at a lower price point. The result is this rugged brass spike coupled with a premium quality, removable rubber ferrule. Spike ferrules are useful for going "off road" with your walking stick, where you may need extra "grip" on rocky terrain, uneven footing, snow, and even ice. Please note, unlike the Lee Valley Spike, the Brazos™ Brass Spike's pointed end is not removable. The premium rubber ferrule that comes standard with the Brazos™ Brass Spike, is ideal for most walking situations. It offers a firm, secure grip on just about any surface, while protecting the brass spike until it's ready for use. Finally, the Brazos™ Brass Spike, attached to a handcrafted Brazos Walking Stick, is an ideal gift, as it offers both utility and distinct style.
Unlike sterile, lifeless metal canes and poles, Brazos walking canes offer natural appeal because they are made from real wood. You can see the fine detail and beauty of the actual tree when you look at one. Each cane is a work of art. Plus, because they are solid wood, there are no moving parts to become unstable. Brazos Walking Sticks is family operated and located in the beautiful Brazos River Valley of Central Texas. Each walking stick is handcrafted by skilled local craftsmen.
All our walking sticks can be personalized with laser engraving, making them uniquely yours. Walking sticks and canes can be further customized with accessories listed above, per your choice.

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!
Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.
Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.
I'm so glad Brazos offers this extra for their walking sticks. My area has lots of steep trails and wet leaves can be as slippery as ice.
This is exactly what I was looking for - both ends I can use and they easily come apart and back together again.
Have not had the opportunity to use this feature but certainly like the option and the quality of the spike!
Excellent, quality item
The combo it a great way to protect the end of your walking stick. Also a great way to insure stability while I sing your walking stick.
Nice piece. Just need to cut the end of my stick a bit so it will fit snuggly.
Bought this for a thinner stick as the diameter is slightly smaller than the Lee Valley version and I like the way you can easily remove the rubber tip to expose the metal spike. Some care is needed in creating the taper on the stick to ensure a tight fit. There are serrations inside the tip to aid in holding it in place but I epoxied mine for good measure.
Not only does this spike work great, it also gives a nice look to the hiking stick. The rubber tip seems durable. A great option to add to your stick.
If you ever go off the pavement for a walk (and we all do) make sure you add the spike feature to your order. The spike is invaluable when hiking for surety of traction on uneven ground when just a rubber tip just won't do the job. It easily transitions between tips making it that much more useful. If for nothing else, the brass tip adds another touch of class to an already beautiful walking tool.
