Brazos™ Free Form Natural Hardwood Root Handcrafted Walking Cane

One word probably describes these canes the best: character. Our stick makers harvest these natural root creations from accessible roots of various hardwood trees using renewable, eco-friendly techniques. The hardwoods vary, but are often times sumac, hawthorne, or something similar. Each piece is different from the next, and our skilled craftsmen take care to make sure that each walking cane is properly sanded, smoothed, and protected with a clear coat of lacquer. The lacquer helps to bring out the wood’s intrinsic beauty and transforms a mere root into something you’ll be proud to call your own. The final result, as you can see, is a cane that only nature itself could fashion, and it's perfect for just about any occasion where a sturdy walking companion is preferred. All of our walking sticks and walking canes are handcrafted by our own craftsmen in Texas (Made in the USA!) using only the finest time-tested methods and woodworking tools.

Made in America, One at a Time

Unlike sterile, lifeless metal canes and poles, Brazos walking canes offer natural appeal because they are made from real wood. You can see the fine detail and beauty of the actual tree when you look at one. Each cane is a work of art. Plus, because they are solid wood, there are no moving parts to become unstable. Brazos Walking Sticks is family operated and located in the beautiful Brazos River Valley of Central Texas. Each walking cane is handcrafted by skilled local craftsmen.

Make it Uniquely Yours

All our canes can be personalized with laser engraving, making them uniquely yours. Canes can be further customized with accessories listed above, per your choice.

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!

Walking Sticks

  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 5’11”, we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5’11”, we recommend a 58-inch stick.

Walking Canes

  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a our lighter 34-inch canes
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 6’, we recommend our standard 37-inch canes as the best starting point.
  • For adults over 6’, we offer 40-inch canes.

Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.

    Very Satisfied!

Posted by David on 24th May 2018

Was surprised what a beautiful piece of work my cane is! When I opened the box and saw it, I thought, "WOW! Nice!" Up until today, I only used it around the house and to walk acoss the grocery store parking lot; but this morning I took a 12 minute walk to our Farmers' Market. I have Neuropathy in my feet and the cane provides me with stability and self-confidence. The cane is unique; I'm glad I didn't go for the average-looking cane!

A great cane and great service

Posted by JFW in East Texas on 24th Nov 2015

I broke a foot bone on Friday and needed a good cane. Found the website for the Brazos Walking Sticks and knew this is what i was looking for. I ordered one of these canes on Sunday and received it on Tuesday. Wow, nice cane and functional. I'm 6'2", ordered the 40" size and cut-off 1.5" and it was an excellent fit. I'm a very satisfied customer.

    It was worth the wait

Posted by Grant P on 12th Aug 2015

I have an old football injury and I am waiting for a knee surgery. After realizing the wait was going to be longer than expected I decided to replace my medical can with something nicer.

This cane took about 2 weeks to arrive (but it did have to cross the Canadian border) but it was amazing. I asked for something big and the cane is big and strong yet amazing light. I was more than happy with my purchase.

    Good strong stick

Posted by Nessa Zimmerman on 15th Jul 2015

The cane is quite rustic, which I like. It is lightweight but feels secure in my hand and makes very little noise in use. The handle is small, which is OK since my hands are little. The only thing I might ask for is a dishing out of the underside of the handle to make the stick easier to hang off a table or chair. I think I will attach a loop in order to do this.

    After Ankle Fusion

Posted by Ray Brown on 26th Jun 2015

Old football injuries return to haunt many years later. After ankle fusion surgery, I really needed something I could put weight on for a year long recovery. The strength and the handles ease in pushing downward is most welcome.
