To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!

Walking Sticks

  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 5’11”, we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5’11”, we recommend a 58-inch stick.

Walking Canes

  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a our lighter 34-inch canes
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 6’, we recommend our standard 37-inch canes as the best starting point.
  • For adults over 6’, we offer 40-inch canes.

Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.

Review of switch sticks Folding Walking Stick

Posted by Ken DeFilippo on 7th Aug 2019

This review should be considered preliminary considering that I have only had my walking stick for a very short time period. I may submit another review in the not too distant future.

My selection of this walking stick was primarily based on it’s ability to be folded when not in use and, to be easily stowed in an overhead bin while flying. The Soiree walking stick met those requirements.

The Soiree appeared to be structurally sound when deployed without any of the joints feeling loose or, emitting noise. The handle is very comfortable and provides for a good, secure resting platform for one’s hand. I would have preferred to have seen more of a selection from HealthSmart other than the Soiree model which is diamond cut throughout its length making it somewhat more noticeable than I desired. Having a choice of various finishes would have been beneficial as well.

The carrying pouch, combined with the keeper band was a nice touch. Also, the ability of the stick to be made to adjust to various lengths was impressive. It should be noted that the instruction booklet refers to the plastic rings that were placed at various points along the stick’s length. However, their purpose became unclear until, after two phone calls to the company, it was found that these clear, flexible plastic rings were only used during packing and shipping and could, therefore, be disposed of.

The Soiree walking stick then, appears to afford a good degree of support when walking with it and, when not in use, easily breaks down to a manageable length. I plan to write another review following the use of my new walking stick, perhaps after several months of use. With respect to value, the price point of the Soiree walking stick seems to be in-line with its intended purpose and design.
