One word probably describes these canes the best: character. Our stick makers harvest these natural root creations from accessible roots of various hardwood trees using renewable, eco-friendly techniques. The hardwoods vary, but are often times sumac, hawthorne, or something similar. Each piece is different from the next, and our skilled craftsmen take care to make sure that each walking cane is properly sanded, smoothed, and protected with a clear coat of lacquer. The lacquer helps to bring out the wood’s intrinsic beauty and transforms a mere root into something you’ll be proud to call your own. The final result, as you can see, is a cane that only nature itself could fashion, and it's perfect for just about any occasion where a sturdy walking companion is preferred. All of our walking sticks and walking canes are handcrafted by our own craftsmen in Texas (Made in the USA!) using only the finest time-tested methods and woodworking tools.
Unlike sterile, lifeless metal canes and poles, Brazos walking canes offer natural appeal because they are made from real wood. You can see the fine detail and beauty of the actual tree when you look at one. Each cane is a work of art. Plus, because they are solid wood, there are no moving parts to become unstable. Brazos Walking Sticks is family operated and located in the beautiful Brazos River Valley of Central Texas. Each walking cane is handcrafted by skilled local craftsmen.
All our canes can be personalized with laser engraving, making them uniquely yours. Canes can be further customized with accessories listed above, per your choice.
***Please note: Each cane is unique and will vary from the photos shown. We cannot guarantee the cane you receive will look like any of the shown canes.***

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!
Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.
Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.
The cane is quite rustic, which I like. It is lightweight but feels secure in my hand and makes very little noise in use. The handle is small, which is OK since my hands are little. The only thing I might ask for is a dishing out of the underside of the handle to make the stick easier to hang off a table or chair. I think I will attach a loop in order to do this.
Old football injuries return to haunt many years later. After ankle fusion surgery, I really needed something I could put weight on for a year long recovery. The strength and the handles ease in pushing downward is most welcome.
I know that each of these be a bit different, but I got very lucky with mine. The root that forms the handle on it curves in a way that gives me a perfect ergonomic grip. Just a happy accident. It's a beautiful stick, using a piece of wood that is quite close to straight, and crafted using the natural beauty of the piece they selected. The one jarring note is entirely my fault; I had my initials engraved, but on actually seeing it, I think it would be prettier without them. The standard sizes they offer would be too long for me, but Brazos trimmed this to 34.5 inches on my request. You just have to put it in the comments section or give them a call. It's lightweight, my shortened one is 13 3/8 oz. but it seems very strong. Certainly it's strong enough for any support I need during normal use. I don't really want to find out if it will work for self defense, but I think it might.
This is one of the most beautifully crafted canes I've seen! I love my new cane, and it will be perfect for helping me get over knee replacement surgery! They even cut it down to my size before shipping it (as I am very short) and did that perfectly, too! I would highly recommend this product!!
I had a small stroke that left me a little wobbly. I've been a using a cane some and decided to get a nice handmade one. It arrived today and, I must say, it meets my highest expectation. It's a rustic, wonderful looking piece of hand work that will serve me very well. Thanks to the good folks at BWS for making these fine works of useable art available to those folks that need a little walking assist.
I had found my first Natural Hardwood Root Cane in a local hardware store and was intrigued by it. I purchased the cane for my mother's birthday and she loved it. After recovering recently from back surgery, I ordered a second cane on line for myself. I was concerned it wouldn't be as beautiful as the one I got earlier but it was. Although unique, I am extremely satisfied with this root cane. It fits my large hands perfectly and I cut it down to a perfect length. There's an a natural power and beauty inherent in the root of a tree. Brazos created a functional work of art, right from nature.
Please tell me the name of the tree my cane was made from. Thank you!
It arrived in three days, fortunately on a day that's ideal for a walk. The fit is perfect, the cane light and it fits the hand.
This is a perfect cane for walking a dog across rough Texas ranchland -- if not totally necessary, certainly comforting for this 77-year-old. So off I went, happy as a clam, walking across winter-gold pasture in west central Texas with my Waco walking stick and my Waco rescue dog (from Fuzzy Friends -- another astounding provider of happiness, also in Waco!).
Great cane, super lightweight and feels perfect to me. Folks ask me often where I got it from.
Love the cane. I use it when I walk my german shepherd.
