However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!

Walking Sticks

  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 5’11”, we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5’11”, we recommend a 58-inch stick.

Walking Canes

  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a our lighter 34-inch canes
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 6’, we recommend our standard 37-inch canes as the best starting point.
  • For adults over 6’, we offer 40-inch canes.

Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.

I didn't even know that I wanted or needed a walking stick. I received this one as a gift, and I LOVE it. How did I ever do without it? My property is hilly, rugged terrain, and now I can walk with confidence anywhere I want to go. Many thanks to Brazos, and to Rusty, who gave it to me.

    Great Product

Posted by Lise on 28th Aug 2012

Just bought this walking stick for my dad for his 65th birthday. He loves it! We had it engraved, had a whistle added to the handle, and got him the spike tip for walking in the woods. It is a gorgeous walking stick. I am very pleased with this company and I will recommend it to everyone I know.

How much I love my Brazos Walking Stick!

Posted by Carla Burke on 29th Jul 2011

I just wanted to tell you how much I love my Brazos walking stick! I purchased the 50" Twisted Sassafras, and LOVE it. It has not only met, but exceeded my expectations, and has had the unexpected additional benefit of helping to strengthen my arm. I get more compliments on it than I would have thought. When I bought it, I loved the look, but my primary concern was having a stick/staff that I could count on being strong and sturdy, to help me up and down stairs, hills and rough terrain, and to occasionally give me leverage, as I work to stand up.

The one thing I regret is not having the budget at the time, to add a few tweaks to it - like the compass and thermometer. And, with winter coming, I have a feeling that the spiked tip would have come in VERY handy, on the ice and snow, where I've had so many falls and near-misses.

I am now wondering if those things might be retro-fitted? I don't want to (and with my physical limitations, really can't) be without my stick now, so I was wondering if I might simply purchase the accessories from you, and have a wood-worker friend of mine fit them on for me (while I wait)? I am still not in a position to afford another stick, with all of the fittings, so (though, ultimately, I want to) that isn't currently an option, for me I want to assure you that I love my stick, and have given the link to your site to quite a few of my friends with similar physical issues to mine - and will continue to do so, whether these additions are possible or not.

    Thank you!
