Our Free Form Cedar Walking Stick is fashioned from non-aromatic Western Cedar. The wood is creamy white and often shows gorgeous red-to-brown grain patterns. Each piece of cedar is carefully chosen, cut, sanded, and sprayed with a protective, clear coat lacquer to bring out the cedar's natural beauty. The finished staff is an attractive and useful walking aid that's firm and relatively lightweight. While not technically a hardwood," cedar is still a strong, durable wood that's an ideal choice for hikers or casual walkers alike. The Free Form Cedar Walking Stick can be customized with a quality, liquid-filled compass, and a spike ferrule or combination spike per your choice. The staff -- like all of our walking sticks and canes -- can also be personalized with laser engraving, decorative pewter stars, a Texas State Seal, and a thermometer. The Free Form Cedar Walking Stick comes in one of four sizes: 41-inches (primarily a "child's size"), 48-inches, 55-inches, and 58-inches. The staff also comes with a standard rubber ferrule for a firm, secure grip on virtually any surface. For serious hiking, the rubber ferrule can also be upgraded to a spike ferrule or combination spike ferrule per your choice. Like all of our handcrafted products, the Free Form Cedar Walking Stick is made in the USA by our skilled craftsmen using the highest quality materials and time-tested methods."

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!

Walking Sticks

  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 5’11”, we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5’11”, we recommend a 58-inch stick.

Walking Canes

  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a our lighter 34-inch canes
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 6’, we recommend our standard 37-inch canes as the best starting point.
  • For adults over 6’, we offer 40-inch canes.

Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.

I'm a big boy 6'3" with big hands. I asked for a "meaty" size 58 stick and it was delivered. Gorgeous engraving. Nice highlights and fit the hand to the tee. Comfortable to walk with yet sturdy. Brazos listened and delivered. Thanks.

Big stick for a big guy

I ordered this Cedar walking stick with a request for a "meaty" stick to fit my big hands. Just what the Doctored Orders! Nice brown highlights throughout the length of the stick. The engraving was "beautiful and everything I hoped it would look like." Thank you for this keeper. Special thanks to Melvin Frost on his work with this stick.

Bought this walking stick as a gift for a cub scout leader as a thank you for his dedication over the years. All I can say is that everyone that has seen it is amazed. From the sturdiness of the stick to the special engraving on the side, this is a walking stick he will enjoy for many years.
