Brazos™ Twisted Hickory Photographer's Hiking Stick

Serious hikers and casual walkers alike praise the Twisted Hickory Photographer's Hiking Stick for its strength, versatility, and beauty. The photo mount screw is compatible with virtually all cameras that mount to a tripod or monopod, making it an ideal tool for nature photography. This distinctive hardwood, known for its strength, is an ideal walking aid for trekking through both neighborhoods and wooded trails. Like all of our twisted sticks, the aesthetic appeal of the Twisted Hickory Photographer's Hiking Stick is accented by our trademark twist that spirals down its shaft. Every piece of hickory is meticulously chosen, prepared, cut, and sanded, giving it our distinctive twist. Finally, each stick is sprayed with a protective clear coat lacquer -- the result is a smooth finish that magnifies the wood's innate beauty. The finished staff is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted hiking stick that is very sturdy and attractive.

Made in America, One at a Time

Unlike sterile, lifeless metal canes and poles, Brazos walking canes offer natural appeal because they are made from real wood. You can see the fine detail and beauty of the actual tree when you look at one. Each cane is a work of art. Plus, because they are solid wood, there are no moving parts to become unstable. Brazos Walking Sticks is family operated and located in the beautiful Brazos River Valley of Central Texas. Each walking stick is handcrafted by skilled local craftsmen.

Make it Uniquely Yours

All our canes can be personalized with laser engraving, making them uniquely yours. Canes can be further customized with accessories listed above, per your choice.

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!

Walking Sticks

  • For small children and shorter adults, we generally recommend a 41-inch stick.
  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a 48-inch stick.
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 5’11”, we recommend a 55-inch stick.
  • For adults over 5’11”, we recommend a 58-inch stick.

Walking Canes

  • For people who are shorter than 5’4″, we recommend a our lighter 34-inch canes
  • For people who are between 5’4″ and 6’, we recommend our standard 37-inch canes as the best starting point.
  • For adults over 6’, we offer 40-inch canes.

Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.

Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.

    My 2nd Brazos 'Stick' - I'm Happy

Posted by Bill C - Pennsylvania on 30th Jul 2014

My first Brazos was a Twisted Hickory Walking Cane. I'm so happy with the quality and look of the cane, and have received many compliments. My hobby is photography, and due to hip issues, I need support, and usually use a cane, however, that can be a bit cumbersome when trying to take photos during walking excursions, hiking, etc. I decided to try the Twisted Hickory Photo Stick. It's the same high quality and look as the walking cane, however, much heavier, which I'm sure I'll get used to after using it a couple of times. I went for a short hike at a local park using this photo stick, and it was nice to be able to mount the camera via the tripod socket and use the stick like a monopod. The top piece that comes off is a nice tight fit and you don't notice the cut mark at all. I'm sure I'll be adding other Brazos sticks/canes to my collection.

    Better than imagined

Posted by Debby on 9th Jul 2014

I was amazed when I removed the walking stick from its packaging. I had high expectations especially after talking to staff, however I never imagined the quality would be outstanding! I bought this for a great friend and had it engraved; now I'm thinking I need to buy one for myself.

I walk a lot and never go without my Brazos Walking Stick.I ran over my last one and used a borrowed ski pole until the new one arrived. It arrived very quickly and is now in constant use. If you walk on uneven surfaces then you need to make a Brazos Walking stick your next best friend.the more you walk the more you'll need it.

    Father's Day Gift

Posted by Phillip on 4th Oct 2012

Received this walking stick for my first Father's Day, and it is one of the best gifts I could ever ask for. Besides backpacking and Geocaching, we take lots of hikes with my daughter in a backpack child carrier. The stability it offers when she is on my back is very reassuring. It is also nice to have a good solid stick in your hand should you ever be confronted on the trail by man or beast, I hope to never be in this situation but I will not be unprepared (I'm currently stationed in Germany and not allowed to have my firearms). I would highly recommend the Twisted Hickory Photo Stick, and would buy from Brazos with full confidence again. Great product from an outstanding company.
