  • Well made staff

    by WMS- I NEED A STICK – 30th Jun 2015

I haven't used it except around my office for balance. It screws together tightly and the grain matches on both sides of the joint. I expect it will be as durable as a solid stick.

  • Great to Travel with

It is so beautiful, the carving, it is a one of a kind. We love the engraving with our names

  • Well made. Will be useful

I got this in the "red" finish with a combi spike tip. I figure that if I do take this on a plane as a carry on, the TSA is less likely to object to that than to the brass spike.

I don't yet have a lot of miles on this, but I've been using it on some local trails that have a fair amount of climbing, and where I really rely on a stick for balance and support sometimes. So far, this has performed very well. It feels as solid as a one piece stick, and shows no tendency to start unscrewing on its own.

You can even leave the middle section out and just screw the top and bottom pieces together as a 36.5 inch walking stick/cane with no handle. There might not be any reason to do this unless you want to lend it to a small child, and it's not an advertised feature, but it does work.

Since it separates into three sections, you can't expect the grain to line up perfectly, but at least the circular metal caps on each end of the sections keep everything physically aligned with no overlap. On my stick, however, there is a bit of a color mismatch. None of the three sections really looks like a reddish brown, but the middle section is noticeably darker than the end ones. It's really noticeable in a strong light. Not a huge flaw, and the stick still looks nice, but once you've noticed it you can't un-notice it.

As always with the 55 inch Brazos sticks, the leather strap is a little short for my 5' 7" height if I want to grab the stick at my normal height while still having my hand through the strap. I made my own longer strap from some para-cord.

On the whole I'm quite happy with this, and think it will be very useful when I want to travel with a hiking staff. Brazos did a fine job with the engraving. Oak is a good choice for this staff, but if they want to come up with a hickory version, I'll consider it.

  • This will be very practical

abviously a lot of care went into these walking sticks when they were made........they are simply beautiful, and beautifully made! Can't wait to try them out, only have walked around the house so far...but I'm excited to take them for a nice long walk out in public, so very glad that I bought them,,,,

  • Attention Getter!

    by Tina B. – 3rd May 2015

Purchased this for my husband and a trip we are about to take. Tried it out locally and we were amazed at the compliments we got from strangers the whole day. This is one beautiful stick, sturdy, and easy to screw/unscrew. Great for packing and the nylon case is sturdy. Just right! Only wish we gotten the laser personalization. I think a name/phone number might be a nice addition in case we accidentally leave this beauty somewhere! Thanks for such high quality.

  • Great Walking Stick!

I have been living with some medical issues some of which affect my equilibrium and this syick has been a godsend with reminding me of the issue. Thanks!!

  • In a few words, please title your review

    by Your Name – 9th Mar 2015

I add this stick to a score of other walking sticks that I've accrued over the years, most all of them cut by me, mostly from my own yard. I like sticks of many species. The diameter of a stick needs to match the strength and weight of the wood. A hickory stick can be quite thin, a butternut or basswood stick fatter.

Don't get me wrong, this is an outstanding stick. I appreciate the impeccable joints, and this stick is unique in the world of travel sticks (I prefer a real wood stick, not a collapsable metal type), but the thickness and therefore the weight of this stick is more than is necessary. Also I wish I could have purchased it unfinished so I could have just oiled it. These are pretty minor criticisms, though. Nice stick!

  • Wow… Uh….. Yeah….. Wow!

I hiked 500 miles in northwestern Spain this Fall and this is the best walking stick in existence as far as I am concerned. Strong, high quality, beautiful and well worth the investment.
