Today tobacco sticks are prized as antiques; a history of the day when tobacco covered the South as the number one crop. Eighty or more years ago, these now sought-after sticks were hand-hewn from logs -- oak, hickory, or ash. A farmer's hard work rendered many tobacco sticks from one log. When he harvested his tobacco crop, he pierced the tobacco leaves on the sticks and hung them to cure in the rafters of his drying barn.
