The result is an exquisite maple hiking staff that's built to last and made to impress! With the Southwest Hitchhiker Maple Walking Stick, the details are more than an afterthought: they're the heart and soul of this staff. Each stick is carefully accented with beautiful padauk and walnut inlays, making for a head-turning walking stick that's both strong and lightweight. The staff is made from solid maple, with our signature twist spiraling majestically down the length of its shaft. Each walking stick is meticulously chosen, cut, worked on a router, sanded, and finally sprayed with a protective clear coat lacquer. The finished product is a beauty to behold. This walking staff comes in a versatile 55-inch size.

To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!
Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.
Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.
Purchased as a gift. No problem with the inlay work regarding grip. Maple is remarkably light to carry and its closed grain is a beautiful look.
I need two walking sticks at a time for balance, and I really like the shape and the weight (not too heavy) of these. I also like the small diamonds on them.
But the design on them was driving me nuts! Then a nudge from the Holy Spirit showed me the problem. Those big circles in the middle of the pattern, one on each side of the stick. I covered those and WOW! Perfecto-Moondo! It eliminates the "Southwest" aspect, and leaves small, attractive diamond shapes and light, small circles.
At first I tried Vet Rap, and got the look. But it slipped around. So I went to masking tape. And then hubby wowed me by using yellow paint tape! Yellow is my favorite color, but there are different colors of paint tape for you to choose from.
The designs on this walking skin are inlays, so you can't just sand it off. You could paint over it and then seal that paint with the right sealant. But you can't paint nuthin' around me, because it will set off my allergies fiercely!
I love the walking sticks that are no longer Southwest!
