To be sure, determining the right size walking stick or can be a subjective art form. What feels right for one person may feel horrible for another. However, with almost two decades of experience in making handcrafted, wooden walking sticks and canes, you can be sure that we have some opinions on the matter!
Cane sizing is best achieved by standing up nice and straight, relaxing your arm naturally to the side, and having someone measure the distance from your wrist to the floor.
Again, let me reiterate, the sizing recommendations listed above are only suggestions. For people needing step-by-step support, it’s best to consult your doctor or another medical professional about your exact sizing needs.
Got this stick for my wife and she will be using on the dog walk in morning. the stick is not as strong looking as my hickory stick but hope will be strong enough for my wife.
I purchased this walking stick the first day out of the hospital from a laparoscopic surgery. The doctor wanted me to use a cane for the first few weeks and the first day out of the hospital I ran across this at ACE hardware. They had a rack of about 10-15 of them and while others were a heavier wood this one grabbed my eye for sheer craftsmanship and the look of the twist in the middle.
I spent the next two weeks hobbling along with it while I slowly got better. Often I would use it to help me get up from a seated position as my core was not quite strong enough to handle the job yet. During my recovery phase I even received quite a few compliments on it. I am not quite sure what size I purchased as it was whatever they had in stock but I did have to cut about 4 inches off the bottom, and then sand the bottom to fit the rubber foot back on but that is not a big deal at all and something that they actually recommend to ensure the stick is the perfect size for you. (They recommend that when gripping the stick normally your elbow is at a 90 degree angle and parallel with the floor which fits just right).
I am used to a very light stick that I purchased in the Bad Lands of South Dakota and while I do like that stick this one has just enough 'heft' to it that were I to run into an off-leash aggressive dog I wouldn't feel afraid whereas my other stick would probably break...
Like I said in the title, I purchased it for the utility and kept it for the quality. I have used this stick almost every day as I target to walk a minimum of 3 miles per day with my dog and with my Fitbit am slowly increasing this amount. Because I purchased it "off the shelf" at a hardware store I will probably get a spike and perhaps the compass and thermometer as I have the wood working skills to install these without them looking too bad.
The one thing I did notice is that if you need to replace the rubber foot they do not take the 'standard' size you can find at the local drug store for canes so make sure you purchase a size large enough as I do not see a benefit to sanding it down further just to get a better fit for the rubber foot.
Got it for my wife and she loves it! The size is correct for her to use base on the web's height recommendation.
Recently received my Brazos Sassafras Walking Stick - my first! Coming off physical therapy for a back injury I'm now back into a daily walking regiment.. This stick aids my stability and stamina. Thank you, thank you - this might be my first, but certainly not my last Brazos walking stick. An awesome product.
This was my first purchase and I LOVE it! It's perfect for a woman who's 5'1" when standing on a box. I ordered the 48" height and it fits just right. And, it's not to heavy or bulky. Would definitely purchase again.
An exquisite walking stick! Thank you ever so much Mr. Silva!
Ordered for my wife- arrived quickly and is just perfect for her. I ordered one for myself today- thanks
I love my Brazos walking Stick! It is beautiful and functional. I ordered sassafras and it is a perfect weight. Not too heavy but sturdy! Wonderful product!
I didn't even know that I wanted or needed a walking stick. I received this one as a gift, and I LOVE it. How did I ever do without it? My property is hilly, rugged terrain, and now I can walk with confidence anywhere I want to go. Many thanks to Brazos, and to Rusty, who gave it to me.
